One frosty night in December of 2009, I was playing indoor 3v3 soccer in a medium sized complex vs. a team that was two years older than us. These girls looked as tall as the Empire State Building! In the last few minutes, I was about to score when one of the older girls pushed me from behind and I landed on the ground. I fell hard onto the cold, kind of damp turf floor. It didn’t hurt, until I sat up. I had heard my arm crack and I landed on it hard and quick. I lay on the ground for about five minutes before the coach came out. When he did, he took me off the field.
I sat there for what seemed like an hour. I was dizzy and could only hear a few things. I got up and asked the coach if I could go back in. He looked me straight in the eyes. “Are you sure your ready? You feel ok?” The coach looked at me hard. “Of course!” I grinned but still outraged at the girl about my arm. The coach had put me back in. It was then I realized I had to do something to get that girl back!
Caroline and Chloe looked at me and smiled. By the way they turned away, I could tell they were worried about me. I whispered to them, “Don’t worry. I have a plan.” By then, Saylor went in for Chloe. Now it was Caroline, Saylor, and I. When they passed me the ball, I sent it up and Saylor scored to tie the game up! Then it was the other teams ball. I knew what had to be done. I needed to do it without getting a red or yellow card. When the girl went passed Caroline and Saylor, it was at that moment my plan was working.
She sprinted down the wall (there were no outs cause it was indoor and the field wasn’t very long) blasting forward trying to get away. I sprinted besides her beating her to the ball with every step. When we got close to the goal, I didn’t let her shoot. I took one step and dipped my shoulder and kind of charged her into the wall making her lose the ball. My plan had worked! She sat there in shock as I took the ball down the field. With only three seconds left I had no choice but to shoot. I took one-step and shot. To my amazement, it went in! My team screamed, “YES! GOOD JOB!” I had scored the winning goal! I felt amazing and ecstatic. That is, until I walked off the field. Then the pain shot through my arm again.
I went to my mom and she calmly drove me to the hospital. When I got there, the doctor put me on one of those hospital beds and put a sleeping needle in my other arm so I fell asleep pretty fast. When I woke up, I saw an x-ray of my arm. I broke my radius and cracked my ulna (two bones in the arm.) I got a cast and a sling to support my arm at school. Before we left I felt my arm right where I had broken it. I could feel the two bones cracked and damaged. The doctor said I couldn’t play sports! At least I could play sports later instead of never again.
The following week, me my mom, my dad, and my bro, went to Australia! I got a waterproof cast so I could swim. It was box jellyfish season so there weren’t really any beaches to go to except for rivers (which no one would ever swim in because of the crocodiles) and Laguna Beach. When we came back from Australia, I got to get my cast off. I thought I could start sports again but I couldn’t until the next week! My arm felt numb and weak but now it’s stronger than before! After a week went by, I went back to all my sports. Everyone was so ecstatic to see me!
Ever since I broke my arm, I can make it crack. I’ll just twist it around and it’ll keep popping. It makes me feel and remember about my two damaged bones, the radius and the ulna. I’m happy I am playing sports again. Just this week I made the Gold Crown Volleyball top team and Gold Crown Basketball’s top team! Basketball practice starts next week but in volleyball, we have already had our first two games that we won! I am so happy to be playing sports. I sometimes feel pain in my arm but that’s just a memory now. I never thought I’d say this but… It was pretty fun when I broke my arm. I also got to see what my arm looked like when it was broken and when it wasn’t broken! ☺
